Navotas City was declared under a state of calamity Wednesday in the wake of floods brought by heavy rain from the monsoon enhanced by typhoon "Gener."

The city council approved the resolution for a state of calamity, according to a report on radio dzBB Wednesday afternoon.

"Halos lahat na barangay binaha sa ating lungsod, dahil na rin sa storm surge at high tide at habagat at ulan," Mayor John Rey Tiangco said in an interview on dzBB.

Navotas was among the areas in Metro Manila that were swamped in floods following heavy rain since Sunday night.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Tiangco said floodwaters had started to subside, though slowly.

He said many of the families who were brought to evacuation centers have started returning to their homes. –KG, GMA News
