MMDA offers 'Libreng Hatid' for UPCAT takers
By Carmela G. Lapeña, GMA News
Students who will be taking the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) this weekend may get a free ride from EDSA or C5 to UP, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on its Twitter account on Thursday.
The MMDA said it will have four trips each from EDSA and C5 on August 4 and 5.
C5 passengers should meet at the MMDA Rescue Base at C5-Ortigas Ilalim.
The EDSA meeting place is at the corner of EDSA and East Ave Ilalim, in front of the DILG Building.
Last year, UP Diliman Police advised examinees to come early to avoid the weekend rush hour which comes at 6 a.m. and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
According to the UPCAT website, examinees must be at their designated Test Center by 6:30 a.m. for the morning session and by 12:30 p.m. for the afternoon session.
According to the University of the Philippines' UPCAT website, 2011 had 70,000 examinees.
Thousands of students take the UPCAT every year, each one of them hoping to gain admission to the state university. On average, only about 10,000 students pass the test taken by approximately 60,000 high school students each year.
The UPCAT lasts for five hours and has sub-tests on language proficiency, reading comprehension, mathematics and science. The exam is in English and Filipino. The UPCAT can be taken only once. — DVM, GMA News
