Meralco to switch off power in flooded areas
(Updated 10:42am) Meralco announced on their official Twitter account that it is prepared to switch off power in areas that are experiencing heavy flooding, as a precaution to prevent deaths by electrocution, with spokesperson Dina Lomotan confirming the information.
As of 9:51 a.m, the electricity company has confirmed that it has de-energized "portions of España, New Manila, portion of La Loma, in Manila," as "the Meralco Sampaloc substation has been de-energized due to severe flooding in the area." "Unang tinanggalan ang Meralco Palomar substation, Tondo. Matindi ang floodwaters [dun]," Lomotan said.
She also advised residents in flooded areas to turn off their main power switch to prevent electrocution and short-circuiting of outlets. "Panawagan namin, habang naghihintay silang [patayin ang kuryente ng Meralco], lalo pag inabot na ang outlets, i-turn off ang main switch. "Wag kalilimutan na pagkatapos nito ay kailangan kayong magpa-check ng kuryente. Ang importante sa kuryente ay tuyo at malinis, para safe tayo at walang grounding"
"Our crews have also been deployed to attend to any trouble that may have affected our facilities serving your area," Meralco's Twitter added. The power company also said affected or concerned residents may contact the Meralco hotline at 16211, or cellphone numbers 09209716211 and 09175516211. Callers must be prepared to give their service ID number, to help Meralco determine the circuit and what transformer supplies the energy in that area. –Adrian Dy and Patricia Denise Chiu/KG, GMA News
