Makati number coding to be lifted Aug. 20, 21
Makati City will lift the number coding scheme for its major thoroughfares on August 20 and 21 (Monday and Tuesday), part of the upcoming long weekend. The city government made the announcement on its Twitter account Thursday. Under the number coding scheme, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2 are banned from major thoroughfares from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays. On Tuesdays, the same rule applies to vehicles with plate numbers ending in 3 and 4. Makati City does not implement "window hours" unlike other NCR cities, and does not always follow the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s lifting of the number coding in special circumstances. The MMDA automatically suspends the rule on holidays. Eid'l Fitr is a holiday in the Philippines and falls on Aug. 20 this year. According to Malacañang’s Proclamation 295 issued Nov. 24 last year, August 21 is a “special non-working day” observing the death anniversary of Benigno Aquino Jr. - BM, GMA News
