NDRRMC: 6 hurt, 8 suffocated in Tutuban Mall fire
At least six people were hurt and eight suffocated during the two-day fire that hit the Tutuban Mall in Manila's Divisoria district earlier this week, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Saturday. In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said three of the injured and all eight who suffered from suffocation were firefighters. The NDRRMC identified the injured as:
- SFO4 Seferino Lozano, lacerated right palm - FO3 Augusto Briones, wounded in left thumb - FO3 Dunerto Angeles, wounded in right knee - Rodel David, lacerated right finger - Carlo Ortiz, wounded right finger - Mark Angelo Penaverde, wounded left finger
It named those who suffocated as: - Fire Inspector Efren Berena - Fire Inspector Alexander Domingo - FO3 Jonjon Lavitoria - FO3 Herbert Tolentino - FO2 Sergio Pangan - FO1 Mark Louie Mendoza - FO1 Julio Mendoza Jr. - FO1 Mark Daniel Eviquez
The fire started at 12:41 a.m. Wednesday at the Tutuban Mall and affected its Cluster Buildings 1 and 2. An initial investigation showed the fire started at the stall of one Maria Theresa Chen at the ground floor and spread to the entire commercial building.
