Armed robbers tie up family in Manila, cops fail to respond
Police are now tracking down at least eight armed robbers who pulled off a brazen daylight robbery in Manila's Sta. Mesa area Tuesday morning.
The robbers tied up the household of Manuel Avillanosa and took off with some P100,000 in valuables, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported.
But police in the area had failed to respond to the theft promptly, according to a separate report on "24 Oras."
The "24 Oras" report quoted Avillanosa as saying the robbers may have sneaked into the house when his driver left the gate open at his house at the corner of Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard and Santol Street.
An initial investigation showed the men tied up the members of the household and ransacked the house's rooms, taking electronics and valuables, then leaving the area casually.
The dzBB report said Avillanosa managed to go to the nearest police precinct for help after freeing himself but he said he was told there were not enough police personnel to respond to his complaint.
The failure of the police to respond was also the latest black eye of sorts for the Philippine National Police.
Only earlier this week, some police personnel had been linked to a P1-million extortion attempt in Manila. — ELR, GMA News
