North Cemetery ‘illegal’ houses demolished for Undas

At least 10 "illegal" houses inside the Manila North Cemetery were demolished Tuesday in preparation for next week's Undas (All Souls' Days).

Manila North Cemetery administrator Edgardo Noriega ordered the demolition amid complaints of thefts and missing items in tombs, radio dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa reported.

Affected by the demolition were some 100 settlers, most of whom are family members of caretakers who work in cemetery.

Some of those settlers were relocated to Bagong Silang in Caloocan City, while others returned to their homes outside the cemetery.

Meanwhile, the cemetery's administration said that tombs have started to be cleaned.

Filipinos are expected to flock to the cemeteries next week to pay their respects to their deceased loved ones.

This year's commemoration of All Souls’ Day will be marked by a long weekend, from Nov. 1, Thursday to Nov. 4, Sunday. — DVM, GMA News
