Diseases stalk victims of Christmas Day fire in San Juan
Diseases are starting to affect the victims of a fire that hit a residential area in San Juan City on Christmas Day.
Many residents are suffering from coughs, colds and fever while staying in evacuation centers, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported Wednesday.
The report said most of the residents are staying at the basketball court and the Pinaglabanan Shrine in San Juan City.
Local officials asked for thick blankets and clothes for the residents of Barangay St. Joseph.
Some 2,000 families spent a cold Christmas night after losing their homes to the Christmas Day fire.
Many families spent Tuesday night sleeping on the floor of a makeshift evacuation center, while others slept on Pinaglabanan Street.
Some of the families huddled in blankets while others kept watch over the belongings they managed to save from the fire.
A part of Pinaglabanan Street, from P. Guevarra to Jose Gil, remained impassable to traffic as of early Wednesday.
The Eastern Police District provided security to the affected residents. — RSJ, GMA News
