MMDA starts dismantling colorum bus stops along EDSA
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday started demolishing "colorum" bus stops along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) as part of its implementation of the bus segregation scheme.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said they found at least six illegally built waiting sheds along EDSA, which he said caused confusion among commuters and bus drivers.
"These structures have caused confusion among commuters and bus drivers, particularly with the implementation of the bus segregation scheme, as they have been mistaken as legitimate bus stops," Tolentino said.
An MMDA news release said the six colorum bus stops were at Kaingin, Reliance, Ortigas MRT Station, Shaw Boulevard, Starmall, Main Avenue, and Bansalangin.
MMDA teams dismantled first the waiting shed at Edsa-Reliance (southbound) near the Victor R. Potenciano Medical Center, then near Starmall, near Edsa-Shaw Boulevard intersection.
The MMDA said these "colorum" bus stops were installed without clearance from it, and appeared to be built hastily during nighttime.
Also, it noted the colorum stops used green paint, the color previously identified with MMDA. The MMDA now uses blue and red for bus stops.
"The MMDA now uses two colors for our bus stops, blue and red. So only those painted with these colors are the authorized loading and unloading bays for PUBs," Tolentino said. — ELR, GMA News
