Pasig cops ready added checkpoints at motel zones

As Valentine's Day nears, police who had been on alert against high-profile crimes may now be keeping tabs on crimes of passion, too.

This early, police in Pasig City are preparing additional checkpoints in the city's so-called motel zones, in time for the occasion.

Pasig City police chief Senior Superintendent Mario Rariza said they expect criminals to target visitors to these motels at this time of year, radio dzBB's Paulo Santos reported.

Rariza was quoted in the report as saying they will particularly keep tabs over Barangays Ugong and Oranbo where many motels are located.

He said they expect a rise in Valentine's visits to motels at this time of year.

Aside from added checkpoints Rariza said they will deploy mobile patrol units and set up help centers in these areas.

Police have been on alert against criminals following a series of high-profile crimes, including a jewelry store heist at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

Following the Jan. 26 Megamall incident, other high-profile crimes had occurred in Metro Manila, including the daylight shooting of a businessman in San Juan City, a money transfer outlet heist in Parañaque City, and a pawnshop heist in Valenzuela City. —KG, GMA News
