Police arrest suspect in 2011 Makati bus blast

The suspect in the bombing of a passenger bus in Makati City which claimed five lives has been apprehended by authorites, more than two years after the tragedy.

 

According to National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr., police arrested Special Action Force (SAF) personnel PO2 Arnold Mayo, suspect in the bombing of the Newman Goldliner bus along EDSA northbound in between Ayala Avenue and Buendia on Jan. 25, 2011.

 

The blast killed five people and injured 16 others. 

 

Cerbo said the arrest warrant for Mayo came out Tuesday 9 a.m. and was served at 12 noon.  

 

"Ngayon pa lang siya [officially] na-aresto sa bus bombing kasi ngayon lang [lumabas ang] arrest warrant although nasa custody na sya ng SAF kasi nga dahil dun sa alleged involvement niya sa bus bombing," he said.

 

He said Mayo has been turned over "peacefully" to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. — with Kimberly Jane Tan/RSJ, GMA News
