Want a summer job? MMDA is looking for 300 interns

Want something meaningful to do this summer vacation? Why not be a public servant? The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is offering summer jobs to 300 college students under its Special Program for the Education of Students (SPES) program. "SPES is an opportunity for our youths to learn what it is like working in public service and at the same time provide them with financial means to continue their education," said MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino in a statement. The MMDA is accepting applications for SPES until March 22. The summer job will start April 1. Last year, the MMDA hired 200 under the SPES program. Lydia Domingo, director of MMDA's administrative service, said the jobs include public services assistants, computer operators, communication equipment operator assistants, accounting clerks, and records clerk. "Applicants should be between 17 to 25 years old, whose parents should have an annual income of below P128,000," the MMDA said. If the applicant is a high school graduate, the MMDA said he or she should have a photocopy of his or her Form 138 with at least 75 percent passing grade. Applicants in the college level should present class cards. Other requirements include:

  • a copy of his or her birth certificate
  • a copy of latest Income Tax Return (ITR) of parents
  • for out-of-school youths, a certificate of good moral character from the barangay chairperson of his or her place of residence.
"If the parents of the applicant are informal workers such as carpenter, plumber, or vendor, a certificate from the barangay is needed," Domingo said. — KBK, GMA News
