Makati opens JP Rizal to 2-way traffic for Holy Week

Makati City is opening J.P. Rizal Street to two-way traffic until Easter Sunday to give way to the installation of "kubols" or "kalbaryos" for the Holy Week.

In an announcement on its website, the Makati City government said the two-way traffic arrangement started Saturday and will last until March 31.

"Around 20 'kubols,' tableaus with religious themes, are being set up by groups and associations in different areas of Poblacion, where devotees are united for the 'Pabasa,' the singing of the Passion of Jesus Christ," it said.

The city government said public safety (MAPSA) traffic enforcers "will be deployed at affected streets to guide the motorists."

City public safety department head Hermenegildo San Miguel said the “kubols” or “kalbaryos” are to be set up in the inner streets of Barangay Poblacion.

The "kubols" are part of the traditions practiced in the old communities of Makati during Holy Week.

Participants in the Holy Week activities were encouraged to spend time in the kubols to pray, reflect and meditate.  — ELR, GMA News
