Ex-NBI agent and Jessica Alfaro bodyguard shot dead in Makati gym

A former agent of the National Bureau of Investigation was shot dead inside a gymnasium in Makati City on Saturday.

 

John Herra was inside the Republic Fitness Gymnasium at M. Reyes in Barangay Bangkal when the gunman pretending to be a customer entered, radio dzBB's Mao dela Cruz reported.

 

Herra had been linked to controversies at the NBI and was sacked in the early 2000s for alleged misconduct.

 

One of his high-profile assignments was as security detail to Jessica Alfaro, who in the 1990s was a witness in the Vizconde Massacre case.

 

The initial investigation by the Makati police showed that when the unidentified killer entered the gym, he drew a firearm and fired at Herra.

 

During his stint at the NBI, Herra had used the call sign "Bad Boy." - VVP, GMA News
