Accident limits EDSA MRT operations Sunday morning; Makati and Pasay cut off
An accident at a portion of its route in southern Metro Manila forced the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 along EDSA to limit its operations early Sunday morning.
MRT General Manager Al Vitangcol III cited initial information indicating the accident at about 5 a.m. forced the MRT to limit operations between Quezon and Mandaluyong Cities.
"Bandang 5 a.m. may taong grasa sa riles ng tren natin, ito nasagasaan ng padating na tren (At about 5 a.m., a stray man was on the railroad tracks and got hit by an MRT coach)," Vitangcol said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He said this forced the MRT to operate only between North Avenue in Quezon City and Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City.
This effectively cut off commuters in Makati City and at Taft Avenue in Pasay City.
"Di makarating sa Taft dahil naroon ang katawan ng lalaki (For now, the MRT cannot get to Taft Avenue as the man's body is reportedly still on the tracks)," he said.
A separate report by dzBB's Glen Juego said there was no timetable on when the MRT could resume normal operations.
