Floods subside after downpour but several still stranded in Metro Manila


Floods brought by rain finally began to subside in Metro Manila Thursday night, but many students, employees and commuters remain stranded.

As of 8:30 p.m. floods had subsided in parts of Taft Avenue and Padre Faura Streets, but many people were still waiting for a ride home, radio dzBB reported.

Some of those stranded said they had been waiting for a ride for two hours or even longer.

In Pasay City, floods that got knee-deep in front of the World Trade Center had also subsided.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said that as of 9:10 p.m. Thursday, "all reported flooded areas are now passable."

The MMDA said that as of 7 p.m., España Boulevard corner Lacson Street towards Maceda Street had become passable to all types vehicles.

However, the MMDA said heavy traffic may still be expected in the area.

Also at 7 p.m., the MMDA said Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard was passable to all vehicles after the flood there also subsided.

Traffic was moderate to heavy in parts of Metro Manila as of 8:10 p.m., including C5 northbound, Market Market to J. Vargas, Green Meadows to Eastwood and Ateneo to Miriam. — BM, GMA News
