Palace wishes Erap ‘the best,’ reminds LGU officials of mandate

Malacañang wished former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada “the best” as he formally assumed his new post at noon Sunday.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the Palace has a similar wish for all other local officials who assumed their posts.

“We wish him the best. Lahat sa local official natin na magsisimula ang termino nagsimula ang termino kanina 12, good luck sa inyo at huwag kalimutan ang atas ng ating taumbayan," Valte said on government-run dzRB radio.

She said the Palace can continue to work with Estrada, adding it sees no problems with him.

Estrada is one of the heads of the United Nationalist Alliance, which challenged the ruling Liberal Party in the 2013 elections.

He defeated Palace-backed reelectionist mayor Alfredo Lim in the May 13 elections.

When asked if the Palace can work with Estrada, Valte said, “we will continue to work,” adding “wala tayong ano doon (we have no problem with him).”

Earlier, Estrada delivered his inaugural speech as Manila mayor, vowing to end the days of kotong (mulcting) cops. — LBG, GMA News
