Coast Guard: 1,000 liters of oil mixture spill into North Harbor

At least 1,000 liters of an oil and water mixture spilled into the North Harbor in Manila after a 10-wheeler truck allegedly hit a receptacle tank last Saturday, the Philippine Coast Guard said Monday.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Coast Guard said the incident occurred at Pier 12-1 where a Edcar Forwarders truck (REP-855) hit the tank of the Manila North Harbor Port Inc.

Coast Guard marine environment cleanup personnel went to the area and advised the master of the MV Span Asia 3 to apply sawdust and sand to absorb the spilled mixture.

The vessel also applied "minimal dispersant" on the water, the Coast Guard said.

No more untoward incident occurred afterward, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard will issue an Inspection and Apprehension Report (IAR) to the truck's owners for the spill. — DVM, GMA News
