Classes suspended at school affected by Pasay fire

Classes may be suspended for up to three days at a public school affected by a fire that razed 250 shanties in Pasay City Wednesday afternoon.

Officials at the Apelo Cruz Elementary School said three of the school's buildings were damaged in the fire, radio dzBB reported Wednesday evening.

The report quoted the school officials as saying the affected facilities included 20 classrooms, library, and computer room.

Before classes at the school could resume, the officials want the facilities inspected to make sure they are safe, the report added.

More than 500 families lost their homes after a fire of undetermined origin razed 250 shanties in Barangays 157, 162 and 165.

Firefighters had a hard time fighting the blaze because the houses were made of light materials and the fire spread quickly due to strong winds.

The fire started at 1:14 p.m. and was put out just past 5 p.m.  — ELR, GMA News
