Rising over their heads, floodwaters force Pasay residents to rooftops

Residents in Pasay City were forced to climb rooftops Tuesday as floods from monsoon rains exacerbated by Tropical Storm Maring swamped congested areas, according to local officials.

As of 2 p.m., rescue operations are still ongoing for residents in Malibay, Pasay, where several residents were forced to climb on their rooftops, Pasay City Administrator Dennis Acorda told GMA News Online in a phone interview.

"Ongoing pa rin kasi sobrang dami talaga nilang mga nasa bubong na, wala pang estimate," he said, when asked for an update.

In an earlier interview with Sandra Aguinaldo on GMA News TV's News To Go, Pasay City Mayor Tony Calixto said: "Lagpas tao na po kaya hindi na po talaga namin marating, kaya may rubber boat kaming ginagamit para po mailikas [ang mga residente]."

He added that the Philippine Air Force has sent a truck to help rescue residents stuck on rooftops.

"'Yung PAF, nagpadala na po ng truck sapagkat marami na po kaming mga kababayan sa Barangay 183 na nandoon na sa bubong," he said. "Humihingi na po ng rescue sa amin."

"Kailangan namin ng mga truck o amphibians para makarating sa mga kailangan ng rescue," he added, when asked what kind of help is needed. —KG/HS, GMA News
