UST entrance exams snarl traffic on major Manila road

Several motorists and commuters were left stewing Sunday on a portion of España Boulevard, as the University of Santo Tomas was conducting its entrance examinations.

At Sunday noon, traffic was snarled at the Manila-bound part of España Boulevard, with the traffic jam extending all the way to the Mabuhay Rotonda area.

Vehicles were seen parked, some with their engines running and flasher lights on - on two of four lanes of the Manila-bound part of España Boulevard.

The traffic jam meant a delay of nearly an hour for passengers taking public jeepneys from Quezon City to Manila.

No traffic aide was visible at the corner of España and Lacson Street, where tricycles darted in and out of traffic.

Some motorists using the northbound part of España liberally made U-turns near UST, adding to the traffic congestion.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority earlier advised motorists and commuters about the traffic congestion near UST due to the entrance exams there.

Meanwhile, the MMDA said the roads closed to traffic for the Alay Lakad sa Kabataan 2013 were reopened as of 9:36 a.m.

"Roads that were closed have re-opened," it said. — LBG, GMA News
