LTFRB, LTO crack down on buses with oversized ads
Land transportation authorities on Wednesday cracked down on buses with oversized ads, penalizing at least 30 such buses along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA).
The Land Transportation Office and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board jointly implemented the crackdown codenamed "Oplan Hubaran," radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.
Many of the apprehended buses were flagged down at the corner of EDSA and Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City, with the drivers being issued traffic violation tickets, the report said.
A separate report on "Unang Balita" said many buses were also flagged down near the Megamall area, where the buses bore ads that covered the bus windows and hampered the drivers' view.
In some cases, the dzBB report said the ads also hampered the view of the buses' name, license plate number and body number.
The report said that under the program, first-time offenders face a penalty of P10,000 and P20,000 on the second offense.
The offending vehicles' ads and license plates will also be removed. The license plates may be redeemed once the operator removes the oversized ads and gets a clearance from both agencies.
The dzBB report also said many of the buses' passengers were irked by the buses' being stopped. — BM, GMA News
