Hurry road repairs in Makati, DPWH asked
Citing flooding and traffic woes, the Makati City government on Saturday appealed to the Department of Public Works and Highways to speed up the repair of roads there.
Makati City Engineer Mario Badillo said motorists have complained to his office about floods and traffic jams in roads undergoing DPWH road repair work.
“We appeal to the DPWH to prioritize the completion of its road repair projects in our city, especially on flood-prone and high-traffic areas like Sen. Gil Puyat and Kalayaan Avenues. The longer they take to finish, the less effective our continuous declogging and desilting operations become in mitigating floods,” Badillo said.
The city government added the DPWH has jurisdiction over national roads like Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue.
Badillo said his office recently finished declogging and desilting Barangays San Antonio, La Paz and Pio del Pilar, removing over 100 metric tons of silt and debris.
City workers also removed illegal structures and relocated informal settlers in two of four Makati barangays spanned by the Tripa de Gallina waterway.
Yet, he said their efforts "are being undermined by prolonged diggings and the continued presence of informal settlers on portions of waterways that are outside the city’s boundaries.”
DPWH roadway projects
The city government also said its monitoring teams noted DPWH roadway projects at:
- J.P. Rizal Street in Brgy. Olympia
- Kalayaan Avenue in Brgys. Bel-Air, Sta. Cruz and San Antonio
- Arnaiz Avenue in Brgy. Pio del Pilar
- Evangelista St. in Brgy. Bangkal
- Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue spanning Brgys. Palanan and San Isidro
- Faraday St. and Rockefeller St. in Brgy. San Isidro
- Emilia St. in Brgy. Palanan.
Other areas to be covered by DPWH roadworks are Magallanes Interchange along Brgys. Bangkal and Magallanes.
The city government also noted an ongoing Metropolitan Manila Development Authority road project along Mojica Street in Brgy. Bangkal. — ELR, GMA News
