Makati pushes structural stability tests for more than 500 buildings
More than 500 buildings in Makati City may need to be subjected to structural stability tests this year to ensure they are safe for occupancy, the city government said Thursday after the Makati City Hall and 37 other buildings were certified for structural soundness.
City Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. also reminded owners of private buildings, especially those 15 or more years old, to comply with a memorandum from the Office of the Building Official last Oct. 30.
The memorandum reminded them to submit a Certification of Structural Stability issued by a licensed structural engineer.
"(R)ecords show that to date, there are 541 buildings in Makati covered by this mandatory requirement," said a news release posted on the city government website.
Meanwhile, Binay urged owners of newer buildings to also ensure the structural integrity for the safety of occupants.
