46 hurt in Commonwealth Avenue multiple-bus crash
At least 46 people were injured in a multiple-bus crash along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City Saturday, a report from GMA 7's “24-Oras” said. According to the report, a bus belonging to the Nova Bus Lines crashed into two more buses stopped near the Philcoa building. “Kung titignan mo 'yung tama, 'yung damage ng Nova bus makikita mo na may kabilisan talaga,” SP04 Henry Se of the Quezon City Police said. The buses stopped near Philcoa belonged to the Marikina Bus Lines and the Safeway bus company. The Nova Bus Lines driver spoke with GMA News and admitted that he was at fault, but denied he was speeding. The driver also denied that he attempted to evade arrest. “Umuwi lang po ako kasi 'yung pasahero po nagagalit baka bugbugin po ako. Kaya umuwi po ako sa garahe. Doon na ako nag surrender,” he explained. The Nova Bus Lines driver will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries, the report said. Pending cases Meanwhile, the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board is waiting for the results of the police investigation. According to LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez, the Nova Bus Lines vehicle will be impounded. There was also a possibility the company's franchise would be suspended. Ginez noted that the Nova Bus Lines has pending cases with the LTFRB. “Hindi pa nga natatapos 'yung mga aksidente nila dati tapos dumating na naman ito,” he said. The owner of Nova Bus Lines also owns the Don Mariano Transit bus company. The Don Mariano franchise had been canceled after one of its buses plummeted off the Skyway last year, killing 21 people. — Andrei Medina/DVM, GMA News
