Manila Bay turned into poor man's beach resort on Easter  

Despite authorities' warnings about the risks to health there, Manila Bay was turned into a poor man's beach resort on Easter Sunday, with many families swimming in its waters to beat the heat.

Many of the "beachgoers" were drivers of kuligligs (motorized tricycles) and their families, who even brought food so they can have a picnic there, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.

The report said the families did not heed warnings by city health authorities that the water in the bay is dirty and can cause skin diseases.

Last year, the Manila city government warned Manila Bay's waters are contaminated and bathing in them could cause diseases. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
