DPWH: Rain slowing down anti-flood project in Manila

Although the rain that fell over Metro Manila in recent days has brought relief from the oppressive dry season heat, it is not welcomed by everyone.

The Department of Public Works and Highways in particular is worried the rain is slowing down progress in its anti-flood projects, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported Thursday.

The DPWH has been rushing anti-flood projects during the dry season, hoping to finish them before the new school year starts on June 2.

As of Thursday, DPWH Engineer Reynaldo Fabian said the anti-flood project along España Boulevard was 17 percent complete.

Last week, the DPWH started work for a flood control project on busy España Boulevard in Manila's Sampaloc district.

Slated to last two months, the P14.3-million "improvement" work on España affected traffic between P. Campa and N. Reyes Streets. It is due for completion on July 13. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
