Pasig River ferry to operate longer hours starting June 1

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced that the Pasig River ferry service will operate longer hours starting June 1. Under the longer schedule, the ferry boats will operate from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily, with the off-peak hours shortened to 12 p.m. - 2 p.m., from the previous 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino explained that the longer schedule was due to private boat operators taking full control of service starting June 1. Meanwhile, "loyal" passengers who will buy at least 10 tickets in advance will be entitled to a 20-percent discount, on top of the regular 20-percent discount for senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities. The ferry service resumed operations last April, and plies routes in Pinagbuhatan (Pasig City), Makati City, and Intramuros in Manila. At least two more stations in Sta. Ana, Manila and San Joaquin, Pasig City are expected to open by June. — Joel Locsin/DVM, GMA News
