No classes in San Juan City June 23-24

Classes in San Juan City will be suspended this coming Monday and Tuesday, June 23 and 24, for the city's annual "Wattah Wattah" festival.

San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez on Thursday issued Executive Order 02-05, "enjoining" school administrators to suspend classes in all levels on those days.

"(To) allow full participation of the citizenry of the City of San Juan, students and teachers, suspension of classes is inevitable to persuade everyone to participate in all the activities of June 23 and 24, 2014," she said in the order posted on the city's Facebook page Friday.

Gomez also noted school officials and students participate in the yearly festival.

Besides, she said the celebration has become a tourism activity.

The city celebrates on June 24 the feast of St. John the Baptist, its patron saint. The day is marked by people throwing water on others. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
