(Updated 5:21 p.m.) At least one suspect in the fatal hazing of Guillo Servando last weekend surrendered to police Tuesday and is undergoing custodial investigation.

But the Manila Police District said the suspect may be turned over to the Makati City police, radio dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa reported.

MPD spokesman Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo said the suspect, whose name he withheld for security reasons, is a member of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity.

"Ina-assess namin ang kanyang participation," said Margarejo in a report on GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas."

However, Margarejo said the suspect claimed the hazing occurred in Barangay Palanan in Makati City. If verified, the MPD may have to turn the suspect over to the Makati City police for further investigation.

Servando, a hotel and restaurant management student at De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, succumbed to injuries sustained during supposed initiation rites last weekend. Three of his fellow neophytes were injured.

Earlier Tuesday, police said they are verifying the identities of two men caught on the closed-circuit television system of a condominium along Taft Avenue where the victims were found.

Margarejo said the suspect in custody is not on the CCTV video.

Meanwhile, relatives of Servando in Iloilo province on Tuesday called for justice as they mourned his death.

Interviewed by GMA Iloilo, Guillo's aunt Sharon Uytiepo described the 18-year-old hotel and restaurant management student as a respectful, loving and happy person.

Guillo, the second of two children of Aurelio and Christine Servando, grew up in Iloilo and had his elementary and high school education there, before he attended college in Metro Manila.

For his part, Guillo's uncle Bro. Antonio Cesar Servando, vice chancellor for administration at the University of Saint La Salle in Bacolod, called for justice and asked government to solve the case soonest. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
