Inmate who bolted Mandaluyong jail surrenders
One of the 11 detainees who escaped from the Mandaluyong City Jail early Monday morning has surrendered to authorities, a television report said Thursday.
According to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita, the mother of escaped inmate Archie Pacheco sought the help of GMA News and radio dzBB to protect the detainee in his surrender as she fears his son may be physically abused by authorities once he returns to jail.
However, the Mandaluyong police has denied any physical abuse in their jail and stressed that violation of human rights is not tolerated, it added.
Milany Martinez of the Mandaluyong PNP Women's Desk.
The report said the mother of Pacheco was then brought to the Mandaluyong City Jail to express his son's intention to surrender.
It added that police then went to Quezon City to pick up the escaped detainee.
Pacheco is currently facing charges in connection with illegal drugs, and will also face additional cases for his escape stint, the report added. — Amanda Fernandez/RSJ, GMA News
