Heavy traffic expected as DPWH closes Sucat interchange eastbound bridge

(Updated 11:36 a.m.) Motorists passing the Sucat Interchange Bridge may have to take alternate routes on Wednesday as its eastbound lane will be closed.

The Department of Public Works and Highways will close the part of the infrastructure to traffic as a dry run for a 45-day closure starting August 2.

The DPWH advised Parañaque City residents to brace for heavier traffic.

Repair work to last until September

The DPWH said the repair and rehabilitation of the bridge will last until September.

DPWH District Engineer Wilfredo Mallari said the dry run will cover the part of the bridge between Dr. A. Santos Avenue and the Muntinlupa side.

For his part, Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said he has instructed the city’s Traffic Management Office to study and propose alternative routes for affected motorists.

“We will also look into the possibility of imposing a truck ban and the possible implementation of a color coding scheme to reduce traffic volume in the affected routes to ease the burden on our commuters and motorists during the duration of the bridge repair,” he said.

Olivarez said areas expected to be severely affected by the bridge closure include almost the entire stretch of Dr. A. Santos Avenue (Sucat Road) as well as the East and West Service Roads of the South Luzon Expressway in both the Parañaque and Muntinlupa sides. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
