Residents warned as Marikina River reaches 15 meters above sea level

Residents near the Marikina River were alerted to prepare for possible evacuation Monday evening, after the first alarm was raised in the area.

The water level at Marikina River reached 15 meters as of 7:30 p.m., radio dzBB's Divine Reyes reported.

A photo posted on Twitter by GMA News' Chino Gaston showed the river starting to overflow.

A water level of 15 meters means Alert Level 1, the first of four alert levels. Alert Level 1 sends out a warning.

Level 2, when the water is 16 meters above sea level, advises the public to prepare for an evacuation. Level 3, when the water is 17 meters above sea level, advises the public to evacuate.

The fourth, Critical Level, is adopted when the water is 18 or more meters above sea level, and forced evacuation is implemented.
