US Embassy in Manila closed on Thursday, Aug. 21
The United States Embassy in Manila will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 21, a non-working holiday marking the death anniversary of former Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.
In a post on its Facebook account, the embassy said it and its affiliated offices will be closed on Thursday.
"The Embassy and its affiliated offices will resume their regular services on Friday, August 22, 2014," it said.
Aug. 21 is a special nonworking day in the Philippines to mark the martyrdom of former Sen. Aquino, father of incumbent President Benigno Aquino III.
The assassination of former Sen. Aquino in 1983 triggered protests that led to the ouster of then President Ferdinand Marcos in 1986. Aquino's widow Corazon was then installed as President. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
