MRT offers refunds for trips cut short due to glitches

Passengers of the Metro Rail Transit have up to five days to seek a refund if their trip was cut due to a "service interruption."

This was one of the guidelines disclosed by the LRT Authority on Thursday, amid recent glitches that disrupted the trips of the MRT and the Light Rail Transit.

LRT passengers who suffer from disrupted trips due to glitches will be allowed to reuse their ticket or given ticket vouchers.

Under the procedures, the traffic control center or train operator will announce a trip stoppage or service interruption in the station via the public address system.

"Palalabasin ang mga pasahero sa service gates at papayuhan ang mga ito na muling gamitin ang hawak na ticket sa loob ng limang araw," it said.

But LRTA spokesman Hernando Cabrera indicated on his Twitter account on Monday that the MRT allowed "cash refunds."

"(S)a MRT3 may cash refund. Sa LRT may ticket voucher, or in some cases puede gamitin uli yung ticket," he said.

The LRT Line 1 links Roosevelt in Quezon City to Baclaran in southern Metro Manila while the LRT Line 2 links C.M. Recto in Manila to Santolan.

MRT links North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City via Epifanio delos Santos Avenue.

Single journey ticket holders who want to avail of the refund can approach the station teller to have the ticket inspected and replaced, via a "ticket to ticket exchange."
