MRT stalls at Kamuning station, defective door blamed

After two relatively incident-free days, passengers of the Metro Rail Transit were again inconvenienced Friday after one of its coaches stalled in Quezon City before noon Friday.

Passengers of a southbound coach that stopped at the GMA-Kamuning station were asked to get off, radio dzBB's Nimfa Ravelo reported.

Some of the passengers sought a refund but others were more vocal about their displeasure, saying they would rather take the bus or a cab.

One passenger said he waited 30 minutes for a train at the Quezon Avenue station only to have the train stop at the next station.

"Pagbili ng ticket pahirapan din," he added.

The MRT links North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City via Epifanio delos Santos Avenue.

In past days, it had been hounded by glitches, including one last Tuesday night where a coach was running even with the door still open.

Last month, an MRT coach overshot the safety barrier at the Taft Avenue station, injuring nearly 40 people.

Ironically, Friday's incident came hours after MRT spokesman Hernando Cabrera tweeted that the MRT had been incident-free for two days.
