Cornejo excited over pending release on bail
Model Deniece Cornejo said only her faith saved her from her continuous detention at the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in connection with the alleged mauling of television host and actor Vhong Navarro in January of this year.
"I believe everything has a purpose. It's not the judge or the evidence that saves me, but it is my faith," Cornejo said.
On Monday, the Taguig Regional Trial Court (RTC) granted the petition of Cornejo and her two co-accused in a serious illegal detention case—Cedric Lee and Zimmer Raz—to each post bail of P500,000.
The three had earlier posted bail for their grave coercion case which also stemmed from the alleged mauling of Navarro.
Cornejo, however, remained at the police's detention facility on Tuesday night pending the submission of certain requirements for her provisional release.

She said that from the time she was detained, had been praying hard for her release and was elated upon learning of the court's decision.
"I am so excited, I can barely think straight," Cornejo said, adding that she intends to go directly to church once she steps out of the PNP-CIDG.
She said her things were already packed since Monday after she heard the court's decision. "I only have a few things with me,” Cornejo said.
For his part, Cornejo's grandfather, Rod Cornejo, said the court's decision was an “answered prayer”.
"We are happy about this, we are elated that she will be released by God's grace. God is good to to all of us because He answered our prayer,” Rod said, adding that he plans to treat his granddaughter with a nice cup of coffee.
"I am planning to buy her a coffee. But I just hope she doesn't ask me to buy her a nice dress," Rod kidded.
As of posting time, CIDG spokesperson Chief Inspector Elizabeth Jasmin said they have yet to receive court document indicating that Cornejo has already posted bail and is ready for release.
Lee and Raz, meanwhile, already posted bail before the Taguig RTC on Tuesday afternoon and were released. —Elizabeth Marcelo/NB, GMA News
