Floods render España Boulevard impassable; LRT, MRT remain operational


Floods from hours of heavy rain from Tropical Storm Mario (Fung-Wong) rendered the entire stretch of España Boulevard in Manila impassable, city Vice Mayor Isko Moreno said Friday.
 
As of 10:57 a.m., Moreno posted photos on Twitter showing flood waters along the boulevard.
 
"The entire stretch of España is no longer passable," he said.
 

On the other hand, a photo posted by GMA News' Oscar Oida showed the floods along España did not stop children from taking a swim.
 

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, meanwhile, retweeted netizens' photos showing knee-deep floods along España.
 
Another photo retweeted by the MMDA showed tire-deep floods at nearby Morayta Street.
 
Much of Metro Manila was submerged in flood following hours of heavy rain from Tropical Storm Mario. Just outside Metro Manila, floods were waist-deep in San Mateo in Rizal .
 
 

In Pasay City, floods were up to neck-deep in some areas, including :
 
  • Mulawin Street, neck-deep
  • B. Mayor Street, waist-deep
  • Apelo Cruz Street, knee-deep
 

LRT, MRT still operational
 
Despite the floods, the Light and Metro Rail Transit systems are still operating on Friday, Light Rail Transit Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera said.
 
"LRT/MRT will continue operating unless power supply is cut-off or if conditions become unsafe to pax and personnel," he said.
 
But as of 9:26 a.m., he noted knee-deep floods at the V. Mapa and Pureza stations of the LRT-2.
 
The R. Papa station of LRT-1 was waist-deep while floods at the Balintawak station were knee-deep.
 
US Embassy
 
At the US Embassy in Manila, radio dzBB said visa appointments are pushing through Friday but those who cannot go to their appointment may rebook online or via call center. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
