Enzo’s parents want to take custody of his kids
By MARK MERUEÑAS, GMA News
The parents of slain international racing champ Enzo Pastor insisted that his two children should stay with them and not with the parents of Enzo's widow Dalia, a suspect in the killing.
Enzo's mother Remy Pastor made the appeal following a Makati family court order for her to formally respond to a guardianship petition filed by the family of Dalia, seeking to retain custody over the children.
The boys, aged six and nine, have been staying with Dalia's parents Xavier and Valerie Guerrero since the killing of Enzo in Quezon City on June 12.
"We miss our grandchildren. They are our last link to our son Enzo. In the name of decency, please do not let our grandchildren be kept away from us," Remy told GMA News Online.
She said the Pastors would be submitting a formal reply before the court hears the guardianship plea on November 4.
Remy said she worries about the capability of Dalia's parents to take care of their grandchildren, especially since Xavier and Valerie themselves have claimed not knowing their daughter's whereabouts.
"It goes without saying na sa amin best na mag-stay ang mga bata," said Remy, stressing that Dalia was a suspect in the crime.
Remy confirmed receiving information earlier from friends and people from the racing circuit that Dalia was spotted in Bohol. Enzo's mother however believed that Dalia might have since escaped to Malaysia.
Remy said the family had tried several times contacting the Guerreros but they had been "deprived" of getting a chance to at least visit the kids.
"The last time I called up Dalia's father, sabi niya hindi daw siya iyon, eh alam ko ang boses niya. Hindi man lang binago ang boses. And then after that, binlock na ko," said Remy.
She said she made the phone call following Dalia's father's appearance in a Department of Justice preliminary investigation, in which he maintained the innocence of his daughter.
Remy said they also tried checking with the school where the boys are attending, and learned that they have not gone to class since the killing.
Remy also revealed that since the killing, they had never laid eyes on Enzo's ashes, which she said were with Dalia's parents.
"Hindi nila ibinigay kasi according to Dalia, the boys wanted to be with their father muna so we respected that," said Remy.
"But now, it's been 100 days. It's been too long. We wanted to get the ashes because the priest suggested na mailibing na to lay him to rest but we didn't get any answer. In the name of decency, please return to us the ashes," she added.
Dalia is facing parricide and frustrated murder charges for the killing. Charged with her are alleged mastermind Domingo de Guzman III and alleged gunman PO2 Edgar Angel, who has been ordered indicted last week for murder despite his recantation. —NB/KG, GMA News
