MMDA: Number coding scheme lifted Monday, Oct. 6
(Updated 10:20 a.m.) Motorists whose vehicles' plate numbers end in 1 and 2 can pass through major Metro Manila thoroughfares on Monday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said Wednesday.
The MMDA said the number coding will be lifted on Monday because it is a holiday in observance of Eid al-Adha.

Last month, President Aquino issued Proclamation 875 which declared October 6 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid al-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice).
Republic Act 9849 mandates the President to declare Eid al-Adha, an Islamic festival, a holiday.
According to the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), Eid al-Adha "honors Ibrahim (Abraham)’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) on the order of almighty Allah."
The festival is marked with prayer and ritual sacrifices of livestock, a portion of which will be distributed to the poor.
The number coding scheme bars vehicles from passing through major roads of Metro Manila from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., depending on the last digit of their license plates.
Covered on Mondays are vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2; 3 and 4 on Tuesdays; 5 and 6 on Wednesdays; 7 and 8 on Thursdays; and 9 and 0 on Fridays. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
