Boxes brought by Undas commuters cause inconvenience at terminals

Despite reminders by bus companies, many passengers heading home for Undas (All Saints' and All Souls' Days) still brought big bags or boxes with them.

Bus companies had appealed to passengers to limit their baggage especially at this time, radio dzBB reported Thursday.

Yet, a photo retweeted on GMA News' Twitter account showed some passengers bringing several large boxes and bags with them.

The yearly Undas exodus is expected to peak starting Thursday as Filipinos head for their home provinces to pay respects to their departed loved ones.

As of Thursday morning, security was tight at the Araneta Bus Terminal in Quezon City, with police and K-9 units inspecting passengers' baggage.

For their part, teams from the Land Transportation Office continued to inspect buses to make sure they were roadworthy.

The LTO used a public utility bus inspection slip to check the buses, with a negative mark being a basis to prevent a bus from leaving the terminal.

Items in the inspection slip ranged from the appearance to the safety of the bus concerned.

At least 656 buses had been given special permits to ply popular routes to the provinces for Undas.

Meanwhile, road repairs for the Undas weekend have been suspended, according to a post on Unang Hirit's Twitter account.

This included repairs on the North Luzon Expressway and Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway, which are suspended until Monday. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
