Japan-bound plane makes emergency landing at NAIA-3
A passenger plane bound for Japan made an emergency landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 Friday morning, reportedly due to smoke in the cabin.
The plane is an ANA (All Nippon Airways) Flight NH 950 headed for Narita, GMA News stringer Ariel Fernandez reported on dzBB radio.
Citing initial information, the report said the ANA flight took off at 9:54 a.m. but supposedly turned back at 10:29 a.m. due to smoke in the cabin.
No one was initially reported injured due to the incident.
CAAP probing incident
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines said it is investigating the cause of the emergency landing.
In a news release, the CAAP said its initial findings showed the ANA flight, a Boeing B767 aircraft, returned to NAIA after takeoff at 9:54 a.m. due to smoke in the cockpit.
CAAP said: "An initial report said that after five miles on air, the pilot requested Manila tower for an emergency landing due to smoke in the cockpit and safely landed at 10:19 a.m."
The plane was carrying 173 passengers and one infant and 10 crew, including eight flight stewards and two pilots.
CAAP said it has dispatched two aircraft accident investigators on site at NAIA Terminal 3 Bay 113 to determine the cause of the incident. — Joel Locsin/RSJ/LBG, GMA News
