Prostitution rampant in Bilibid, insider claims
An insider who deals in flesh inside the New Bilibid Prisons claims that prostitution is rampant and an open secret in the national penitentiary.
In a report on GMA's “24 Oras” on Friday, a source said she went into pimping women in the NBP after her husband was given a 20-year prison sentence.
“Walang higpit. Pera pera doon sa loob. Pasok pasok ng alak, drugs,” she said.
She added that she gets a 10-percent commission from the inmates, who are usually of Chinese descent.
“Pag maganda at bata nga nasa P50,000 to P30,000 [ang presyo]. Pero pag may edad na hanggang mga 27 years old nasa P20,000 lang 'yun. Kahit gabi mayroon. Umaga na lumalabas,” she said.
She also said it was easy to learn the system especially if you know which NBP officials can be bribed with cash.
“Dadating sila doon ibibigay lang ang pangalan. Tapos i-aano na sa empleyada. Minsan naman may mga bugaw na papaasok, kakausapin ang empleyada, mayroon na silang konekta doon sa loob,” she said.
The informant's statement comes after the Department of Justice released the implementing rules and regulations for the Bureau of Corrections modernization law.
According to Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, the move aims to reduce illegal acts inside the NBP.
“Our prisons do not have to be universities of crime or hotbeds for criminal operations or training grounds for aspiring career criminals or market places for illegal drugs trade and other nefarious activities,” De lima said.
The NBP has become the focus of recent attentions because of issues like a rampant illegal drug trade and the installation of signal boosters for the mobile phones allegedly used by inmates.
For its part, the DOJ has been conducting continuous surprise inspections to deter illegal activities inside the prison. — Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
