Sharon Cuneta will make a good Pasay City mayor –Sotto

Acting Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto III on Wednesday said he is “seriously” thinking about encouraging his niece, the actress Sharon Cuneta, to run for mayor in Pasay City.

“Magiging magaling na mayor ng Pasay yun,” said Sotto, who played a big role in kickstarting Cuneta's career in showbusiness.

Sotto was the vice president of Vicor Music when it signed Cuneta to record an album. His wife, Helen Gamboa, is the sister of Cuneta's mother Elaine, who passed away in November.

“Kung ako ang tatanungin, sapagkat ako ang naghubog, ako ang nag-imbento ng showbiz career niya, pwede ko rin iimbento yung political career niya kung gusto nya,” Sotto said.

Cuneta's late father, Pablo Cuneta, was the longest serving mayor of Pasay City.

Sotto, however, admitted that he has yet to talk to Cuneta about politics.

“Seryosong iniisip ko, [pero] hindi niya alam. Ako lang, opinyon ko na if I invented her showbiz career, I can also invent her political career if she wants,” he said.

Sotto also said he doesn't know if Cuneta has any interest in politics.

He said he also believes Cuneta is slowly getting over her depression caused by her mother's death.

“Depressed pa pero she is getting better. Sa tagal nang panahon na hindi sila nagsama ng mommy niya dahil naging busy siya, nung mawala ang mommy niya, na-realize niyang andaming panahon ang nasayang niya na hindi sila magkasama, yun ang reading ko, personal opinion ko yan,” he said.

Sotto said his children are always in touch with Cuneta, with whom they are very close.

“Every now and then nakakausap niya yung mga pinsan niya, mga anak ko. Mga anak ko kasi kino-consider niya na mga kapatid niya. Every now and then nag-uusap naman sila. Ayos naman. I'm sure she can move on very soon,” he said. —KBK, GMA News
