QC tells residents: Segregate discarded fireworks from regular trash
At least for the holidays, residents in Quezon City may have to remember one more rule in segregating their trash: separate discarded fireworks from the regular garbage.
The city government asked barangay chairpersons to relay the reminder to residents, especially those who are expected to celebrate the holidays with fireworks.
"The Punong Barangays will also be advised to inform their residents to make sure that all discarded fireworks are separated from the regular garbage for the safety of our garbage crew," it said.
It also asked barangay chairpersons to "inform the residents to douse spent fireworks and firecrackers with water as precautionary measure against fireworks and firecrackers that might suddenly ignite and injure the garbage hauling crew."
Earlier, the city government warned garbage collectors in Quezon City against soliciting from residents during the holidays, or face sanctions.
The city government also instructed its garbage contractors to deploy sweepers on December 24, 26, 29, 30 and 31, and on January 1 and 2 to avoid accumulation of litter.
Regular garbage collection operations will be conducted from December 24 to 31, and January 1 to 2, 2015.
"The City's waste segregation policy will still be strictly implemented," the city government said.
Garbage collection and special operations monitors will be deployed during the holiday season to monitor major thoroughfares and barangay roads to ensure garbage is collected. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
