Five escaped QC inmates back in jail

At least five of the 16 inmates who escaped from their detention cell in Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 7 (Cubao) last Wednesday are now back in police custody.

According to a report on GMA Radyo DZBB, two inmates identified as Thomas Evan Labutong and Rigor Alejandrino were recaptured Thursday afternoon in Camachile, Quezon City.

QCPD head Chief Superintendent Joel Pagdilao said another inmate, John Patrick Dionido, surrendered also Thursday afternoon.

The 16 inmates escaped between 2 a.m. and 3a.m. Wednesday by sawing off the ceiling of their detention cell.

A few hours after their escape, inmates Robert Lacaba and Benedicto Guinto were recaptured by the police.

“Gusto lang sana namin makasama ang pamilya namin sa Bagong Taon na ito, tapos babalik naman talaga kami kasama ang pamilya namin,” Lacaba, who has a pending alarm and scandal case, said in an interview with GMA News TV's “Balitanghali.”

Intensified manhunt operations for the 11 more inmates is ongoing, Pagdilao said.

Based on QCPD records, the escaped inmates are facing charges ranging from rape to robbery and snatching.

Pagdilao earlier relieved station commander Superintendent Wilson delos Santos in light of an ongoing investigation on the incident.
