Mocha Girls: Bilibid visit was for concert, not to visit high-profile inmates

The sexy dance group Mocha Girls on Wednesday said that their appearance at New Bilibid Prison was only for a concert inside the facility, and was not a special visit to high-profile inmates.

"Meron silang concert doon, isa kami sa mga naimbitahan doon," said Mocha Girls lead singer Mocha Uson in a report on "24 Oras" on Wednesday.

GMA News was able to obtain photos of some members of Mocha Girls inside the maximum security compound from a source who has access to the national penitentiary. The photos were allegedly taken last year.

But Uson denied that there was anything going on beyond their performance.

"Sexy po ang imahe namin, bilang performers, pero hanggang sa performance lang 'yun, pero offstage, very private kami, hindi po kami pumapatol sa mga indecent proposals," Uson said.

Her denial comes after Justice Secretary Leila De Lima relieved four ranking officials of the national penitentiary from their posts after "starlets" were allegedly given special passes to go inside Bilibid on Christmas Eve.

"Napupuno na talaga ako," the Justice Secretary said.

De Lima also received copies of the Mocha Girls photos, but has yet to give a statement on the matter.

GMA News is still trying to get the comment of NBP and Bureau of Corrections regarding the photos.

But the Justice Secretary has already expressed her impatience over the recent controversies that surround the National Bilibid Prison.

The prison has been at the center of controversy over the last few weeks after a series of raids exposed the luxurious lifestyles of some inmates. A recent case of an attempted rape on a minor inside the national penitentiary also made headlines.

The issue has led to stricter rules for visitors, with only wives of inmates allowed to go inside Bilibid. —Trisha Macas/JST, GMA News
