NDRRMC: 3 Nazarene devotees at Quirino Grandstand lose consciousness


At least 84 devotees of the Black Nazarene were treated for medical conditions early Friday at the Quirino Grandstand, before the procession finally got moving.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said most cases at the Quirino Grandstand station as of 6 a.m. involved hypertension and abrasions.

It said 66 had hypertension, four had abrasions and one had arthritis. One had a viral illness while another had asthma and another had a musculoskeletal strain and one had an ankle sprain.

Another had arthritis, one had gastritis, two complained of toothache and three complained of headache. One had a laceration, one had a puncture wound, and another had an infected wound.

For its part, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority assisted at least three persons who lost consciousness.

Metro Manila hospitals were placed on Code White for the procession since Thursday, Jan. 8. The NDRRMC operations center was also on red alert since Thursday.

For its part, the Philippine National Police deployed 3,040 police personnel from Metro Manila's five police districts and from various PNP units, including:

- 113 from Northern Police District
- 101 from Eastern Police District
- 1,758 from Manila Police District
- 100 from Southern Police District
- 114 from Quezon City Police District
- 790 from Regional Public Safety Battalion
- 26 from Regional Intelligence Division
- 26 from Regional Communication and Electronic Office
- 8 from Regional Health Service
- 4 from Regional Tactical Operations and Intelligence Center

The Manila Fire District deployed fire trucks and personnel.

Meanwhile, the National Bureau of Investigation had a standby team with forensic doctors, chemist-biologists, forensic dentists, photographers, lab technicians, fingerprint examiners and support staff on standby.

The Philippine Coast Guard deployed personnel and equipment including K-9 teams, rescue boats and Special Operations Group divers at the Quirino Grandstand.

It also deployed a chopper, aluminum and inflatable boats near Jones Bridge. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
