9-vehicle smashup at SLEX causes 2.3-km queue; at least 1 hurt


A nine-vehicle smashup slowed down traffic along a portion of the South Luzon Expressway in Laguna province Thursday morning.

SLEX traffic and security manager retired Col. Inocencio Silbol said the smashup occurred at about 7:45 a.m. at the southbound part of SLEX near Calamba exit.

"Nangyari ito southbound malapit sa Calamba exit ... Nag-slow ang sa unahan (at) nag-cause ng traffic mga 2.3 kilometers ang haba," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.

He said that as of 8:27 a.m., only three lanes are passable, including the shoulder.

Silbol cited initial information indicating at least one person was injured, with one ambulance dispatched to the area. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
