Some Makati streets closed Sunday for Caracol Festival

Motorists may want to avoid some streets in Makati City this Sunday as they will be closed for the Caracol festival.

The city government's Public Safety Department said Friday that the following streets near Circuit Makati will be closed 3 p.m. Sunday for the event:

  • Stretch of Hippodromo Street from Liwayway St. to A.P. Reyes St.
  • Stretch of A.P. Reyes St. from J.P. Rizal to Pascua St.
  • Portions of streets adjacent to Hippodromo St. including Liwayway, Sampaguita, Kakarong, Zapote, Hiwaga and Economia

Hippodromo and A.P. Reyes Streets will be the venue of the assembly and parade of hundreds of participants entering Circuit Makati grounds for the dance competition.

Meanwhile, San Miguel said only the gate of Circuit Makati near Taliba corner Hippodromo Streets will be open to the public.

Only event organizers, participants and special performers will be allowed to enter through the other gates.

Detours

Vehicles passing J.P. Rizal going towards Taft Avenue shall go straight past A.P. Reyes St. instead of turning right.

Those bound for EDSA/Guadalupe may take Kalayaan Avenue, which will be open to two-way traffic.

Jeepneys plying the Mantrade-Libertad-PRC route, coming from Pasong Tamo Extension shall turn left at J.P. Rizal then left to Pasong Tirad towards their destination.

Motorists are also advised to take alternate routes and avoid the staging areas.

Circuit Makati will allot 350 parking slots to accommodate participants using their own vehicles.

The 29th Caracol Festival of Makati is expected to draw a huge crowd with the dance competition featuring young performers in nature-inspired costumes.

Conceptualized in 1986, Caracol ushered in the Fiesta Islands Program of the Department of Tourism in 1989.
